What is a Personal Proclivity

It happened again this morning.  It happens every we time we talk about that topic.  We get together at least once a month to talk about God, marriage, parenthood and career.  Those topics do excite him.  But when I ask him about this one topic, he is enlivened differently.  There is a spark to his eye and to his words!  The topic is not important to this blog, but what the topic did to him is.  He is informed on this topic.  He has passion about this topic.  This topic grabs his mind and his heart.  He has a natural interest in and is naturally drawn toward this topic.  It is a part of his personal proclivity.

I am, although, a little worried about him.  He has not given himself very much to this personal proclivity in recent months.  And I fear this part of him is shrinking  and I fear as a result he may be shrinking too - unnecessarily.  I think he can afford to reincorporate some of this proclivity back into his life.  His job used to feed it - in a healthy way.  He changed jobs last year.  The new job doesn't feed it.  It would not be difficult to indulge this proclivity a little.  He could afford it - in time and effort - and the payoff would likely be beneficial and enlivening.  We talked about how he could feed that proclivity in a balanced and healthy way.  I will check in with him next time we drink coffee together and I will watch for the spark in his eye when this topic comes up again!

This is what Personal Proclivity is - learning your God-given traits and tendencies and maximizing them for productive, contributory living.  I love seeing it happen!
