Emotional Intelligence, The Breakfast Club, and Self-Awareness

I got to enjoy another high school graduation this weekend.  This time if was my niece's.  Congratulations to the Pahrump Valley High School Class of 2014.

Shortly before my niece left for her graduation ceremony, she posted a picture from one of her favorite movies - The Breakfast Club.  She didn't know it is also one of mine.  It was a sweet connection for me!

The connection increased as I heard her class valedictorian also reference the movie.  She began naming professions and roles she saw her classmates filling in the world as they continued to realize their futures.  As she named them, people who identified with those professions and life roles began to stand with one fist in the air -  like the picture my niece had posted earlier.

It reminded me of the connection I had with myself 31 years ago when I graduated.  It reminded me of who I knew myself to be then, who I dreamed of becoming, and who I have actually become.  There has been connection and disconnection along the way; victory and struggle, excitement and aggravation, disappointment and surprise - at least partly because of the connection and disconnection I had with my own self-awareness.

I dream of my niece becoming who she dreams to be and who she is designed to be.  I dream of alignment between her natural tendencies and what she applies herself to becoming.  I dream of increasing self-awareness that can escort her into a bright future.  Since I am a bit obsessed with Emotional Intelligence, I couldn't help but to think of how the self-awareness aspect of Emotional Intelligence is so fresh and alive in my niece's graduating classmates - vitally connecting them to their futures.  How vitally connected are you to yours?  How fresh and alive are you as you dream of the future?

That is what I love to do as a life coach - connect people to their natural tendencies for increased personal and spiritual strength through Emotional Intelligence Coaching.  Celebrate this season of honoring the youthful hope of the future by invigorating yours.  I am discounting my coaching services to honor those graduating and reminding us of our own hopes for the future.
